I have a stock evo 8 turbo. Your site doesnt say exactly what services are provided for it. What can you do to it and how much does it cost to rebuild and install a bigger wheel from 20G.

Sorry we are currently updating our site. We can offer the 20g conversion and rebuild for the evo8 and evo9 for $260. We offer billet wheel option for $350 which includes a billet 6,7, or 11 blade extended tip wheel, machining, and a rebuild. If you want an antisurge compressor housing its $40 more to the total cost of the previous prices mentioned. I hope to update our store soon so we have the information available.

I have a precision 5858 turbo I want to know cost of standard rebuild, all seals and all that to freshen up.

          2. Austin Post author

225$ for a basic rebuild, if it needs a turbine shaft, I have to upgrade it to the 6262 turbine because the 5858 turbine isn’t available. If it needs a shafts the cost to replace the shaft and machine the turbine housing is 180 more.

I have a gtx3576 turbo, .61 AR, and 1.01 v band exhaust AR. 11 blade billet wheel 57mm and 76mm exhaust wheel. Do you offer any upgrades/machining to make this a 62mm or bigger?

There are a lot of billet wheel options between 40 and 52mm. we usually just build MHI 16gs and 20gs for subarus. They are a lot easier to rebuild, i feel like they are more reliable. I dont know the VF series very well. I know they have tiny turbine wheels, that is the main think they I do not like so much about them.

Its 700$ to do the pair, this includes 2 tdo4hL 11 blade turbines 46.5mm x 52mm, cast 19t compressor wheels, rebuild labor, and machining. If you want the billet wheel option its $800 for everything. For the billet wheel options, we have billet extended tip 19t compressor wheels in 11 and 6 blade. The 11 blade wheels would favor spool up and lower boost levels (22-25 psi would be the peak). The 6 blade wheels would favor higher boost levels (25-30 psi) and would be capable of more power. Im waiting on a set of 11 blade rotation assemblies to get back from balancing. I will have those pictures in about 1.5 to 2 weeks so you can see what they look like. We also can get 20t (47mm x 58mm x 61mm offered in 6 and 11 blade) and 20t (50mm x 61mm x 64mm 6 blade) upgraded compressor wheels but we haven’t had them tested and don’t know what they are capable of. As for the 20t and 20t upgrade, it may require me buying new compressor housings because the housing is not big enough to be able to have a bigger size pipe put in the compressor housing.

The turbine wheels are all inconel. The turbine shafts need to with stand really high temperatures, that why inconel is used. Or are you talking about the aluminum billet wheels that are machined from solid aluminum?

    Dear Sir,

Is your 60-1 a Garrett equivalent?
    Inducer / Exducer :59 mm / 76.2 mm
    Hub Length: 37.6 mm
    Bore size: 6.35 mm

Our billet wheel 60-1 are a little different. Our cast 60-1 are equivalent to the garrett wheels. The MHI 11 blade we offer is 58mm x 76 with is a 3076 11 blade billet wheel. We can get that for a garrett shaft bore as well. We have a lot of garrett compressor wheel options, it just depends what your power goals are, and I can match you with the wheel you need. The 60-1 flows ~65 lb per min.

Well, here’s my situation Austin. I have a 2001 VW Golf TDI with a stock VNT 15 (GT1749va) turbo. I’m looking for an upgrade that will be both a bolt-on option, durable, and reasonably priced that can: 1) Run up to 30 psi, 2) Can sustain boost levels into the low 5K rpm range, 3) Avoid EGT/EMP issues while doing this. Having done extensive research, I’ve come up with two options: Using a VNT17 frame from a Euro PD150 Golf (GT1749vb), and putting in a GT18 hotside turbine with a 52mm-56mm compressor in a VNT-22 frame from a T4 TDI VW Transporter. Or, using a complete VNT17 frame on both sides, but machine out the shell 1mm or so for extra flow, and use a billet 38mm Compressor with the standard 49mm turbine. (I was told if you use a billet compressor on the VNT 17, the beefier shaft diameter prevents you from upgrading the turbine beyond stock due to clearance issues with the VNT vanes. A third alternative is using a VNT18 frame from a 2000’s era Mercedes Sprinter CDI, but that requires an adapter to bolt up to my stock manifold. Same with the VNT20 from a 150/180hp Euro VW/Audi TDI V6 from the same early 2000’s era. What options seem the most feasible here with the requirements I’ve set forth? What cost roughly would they be to do? I will be buying this turbo fairly soon as my current one is throwing codes and going into limp mode due to a sticking vane actuator…spiking boost levels. With nearly 350K miles on the turbo, it’s only a matter of time before it goes….and I’d rather dispatch it peacefully than have it go more “violently”. Your response/input is greatly appreciated. (I’ve had pretty bad experiences with people not responding to email messages with other companies)

Okay Austin, I have some info and references about the GT1749vb upgrades you can use. It turns out that the turbine side can be machined out if you have an cnc machine, and it can take various sizes of turbine wheels. Here are a few web pages on the subject and how it was done:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=206363 (From a former builder of hybrid/ re-machined TDI turbos)

        http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=116643&page=2
(Discussion about a GT17 based hybrid turbo available in 5 stages, starting with a complete GT17 housing modded for bigger compressor/turbines in the lower stages, to upgraded housings from GT22/25 in the upper stages) Mine would be VT2 level, using a GT17 housing and 17/20 or 18/20 turbine/comp wheels.)

        Turbine wheels references– http://turbomaster.info/eng/applications/turbine.php

        Compressor wheels references– http://turbomaster.info/eng/applications/compressor.php

What you use depends on how much you machine the turbine frame and installing the center section that gives you the room for the larger turbine wheel. Then there’s no need to clip the vanes. I can try to find more, but several tuners have don ethis reliably…just have to find those that have. Hope this helps…let me know what you think.

Hello, I am interested in your 20t upgrade for two 3kgt td04-9b turbos. I would like the billet wheels. I saw in your previous posts about how your having to upgrade the housings to accomodate the largest 20t wheels. Id be interested in this only if the housing were able to be bolted on without any modification on my part.

We have billet compressor wheel options in 6, 7, and 11 blade that are extended tip. I can offer a tdo6sl2 turbine upgrade or clipping of the factory turbine as well. The only turbo we have results from is the tdo5hR 20g (nonbillet and unclipped) which made 493 whp on e85. The tdo6sl2R 20g with extended tip would be a good one to go with, but its probably rated for above your power goals. The tdo5hR turbine limited the flow of the engine at 6500 rpm where it wouldnt pull any farther. Having a tdo6sl2 turbine or clipped tdo5hR turbine will help that too. The price range is $280-$450. The $450 would be the tdo6sl2R 20g with a billet compressor wheel as well, i would go with the 6 or 7 blade.

Hello, I have a custom build VNT20 turbo that was installed on my Jetta when I bought it. The compressor oil seal started leaking and I managed to break the turbine shaft while disassembling it. At this point I need someone who can correctly identify and acquire a replacement turbine, plus take care of the rebuild, balance, etc. The car was tuned for this turbo and so I would like to keep it the same if at all possible. Is this something you would be willing to do? Thanks.

The turbine wheel dimensions are identical to a GT22 turbine, PN 434716-0005, that I found on a website. The trouble is that they don’t publish all of the dimensions. I have measured dimensions and pictures that I can send if it would be helpful. So far I have not been able to find a set of dimensions for an actual VNT20 turbine.

I can get the gt22 turbine, but i would need to turbine to take measurements. The catalog that i have has 6 versions of the gt22 turbine and there is also a gt2260 turbine they offer. The gt2260 turbine is 50mm x 45mm the regular gt22 turbines are around 50mm x 42mm. How many blades does yours have. most of them are 9 blade, but 1 is a 12 blade.

hello I need your 14b to 20g service the turbo currently works fine with very little side to side or in and out play just not enough power for me I saw it cost 240.00 for this? is their any other cost not included or is that the price out the door?

    Reply
    1. Austin Post author

240 is the price shipped and converted. This includes a rebuild, machining, cast 20g compressor wheel, and all the labor involved. It does not include a turbine shaft. About 90 percent of the time the turbine shafts have to be replaced. Your turbine shaft should be good because your turbo is still good. The 14b shafts are right hand thread and the nut can come off (without loctite) at 22 psi, so i usually just replace them. I can add loctite, but we had one still spin the nut loose at 30 psi, otherwise we never had issues. We sell new tdo5h turbines for 60. There is a chance your turbo could have had the shaft replaced with a left hand thread one.

      Reply
    2. Austin Post author

The only other thing you may need to buy is a new tdo5h turbine which we sell for 75$, because the factory 14b shaft is right hand thread and the nut can come off. Yes its 240 if you dont need/want the turbine shaft, shipping is included in the 240

Hey there Austin. I’m looking into upgrading my TD04 13G turbos from my Stealth RT turbo. I’m looking into having them upgraded to 15g’s, possibly using billet compressor wheels. What would the cost of this be? I also have a set of stock TD04 9b turbos I might get rebuilt or upgrade to something that will get me close to 500 awhp. Let me know your suggestion and price.
And do you guys accept cores?

    1. Austin Post author

We dont have any 3kgt cores. When you ask if we accept cores, do you mean do we buy cores? Sometimes we do. For the 15gs, it really depends on what turbines you want to run for the price. For the full out 19ts or 20ts its 800 for everything(includes rebuild, new tdo4HL turbines, billet 20t or 19t wheels). For the 15gs its 240 each turbo, which comes out to 480 to rebuild and machine 2 turbos to the 15g billet wheels. I would just go as big as possible if you go for 500 hp. I would build 20ts.

    Austin,
i have been reading some of the comments on the various services that you all offer. i just bought a used 14b with some minor damage to a blade or two on the compressor wheel. i was going to rebuild until i learned that the damage effects balancing…makes sense. so at this point im interested in doing the 20g conversion. Also, i have seen some upgrades for the 13g’s on stealths and 3000gts. i just bought an auto dsm with the 13g in it, Is this the same turbo? If so, can those same upgrades..i.e. 15g, 16t, 19t be done to my 13g and yield the same projected power? or, does that expected power apply to twin turbo applications only. im curious about this since everybody and their momma does 20g or 16g, holset and fp. i dont necessarily want to follow everyone else,s foot steps. i apologize for the rambling.

Hopefully you can help me out here, I currently have a fp td06sl2 20g w/ cast wheel on a rally car and with the 34mm restrictor it pretty much sucks. To help widen the power band I was thinking to switch to a td05h and a better comp wheel but all the different # of blades and what not is confusing to me. Would more or less comp blades help at lower rpms, would extended tip help? Would more or less turbine blades help with spool up? Can I even get parts for a now discontinued fp turbo?

I’m interested in buying a 35R center I have a GT3582R Turbo turbine wheel was damaged.
What gains would I see if I choose to get the billet wheel upgrade.
    My current setup is:
    Suzuki GSXR1300 fully modded motor.
    AMS 2000 boost control
500hp @30psi boost (lots of heat in the motor)

I have a pte 5031 journal bearing turbo no shaft play turbo has been perfect for the 3 years ive had it running 28-32psi on it. Its running out of steem thought. Wondering if there are any upgrades i could do to it…ball bearings or maybe a different shaft and blades anything? Im looking to make 500-600 wheel lofty for a 50 trim i know but my true goal is just ridicules spool with a nice punch. 4 cyl

You need something close to a 35r or 6262 in size to make it to hight 500 hp range. I can make your turbo into a ball bearing gtx35r for 700. But if you didnt want to go ball bearing, i could make the same GTX35 in journal bearing for 500. If you didnt want to go billet wheel, we could go with a cast compressor wheel and offer a 35r compressor journal bearing with a 6262 turbine for $450. The prices include machining both housings, rebuild parts, and labor.

Are you talking Precision? 6262 and a 35r garret? so one side is garret one side is precision 6262? Have you done something like this before or will this be one of a kind?

I have built a lot of them Some of Garrett and Precision parts are the same, the 6262 and gt35r use the Garrett T350 turbine. the 6262 compressor is just a little larger than the gt35r on the inducer, the exducer of both is 82mm. What are we working with for a core? i can build you a complete turbo and in some cases it makes more sense.

Bulls Eye 50 Trim tdo4b i believe. The only issue i see is the compressor housing being just way to small for my goals. That would be for you professionals to determine though. It would be a shame to tare apart my fully functional precision 5031 to accomplish this purpose. I do have a Bullseye 50 Trim at my disposal. Originally you guys were going to machine the housing to fit a HX40 untill i asked for another build option.

          2. Austin Post author

The TO4B covers are pretty small only .60 a/r. We do Have New GTX3582R Compressor Housings and Wheels to do Builds now, but we are in the Process of Getting TO4S Compressor Plates for easy Upgrade Packages. The HX40 is an Option, I have all the Parts to Make new HX40’s minus the Turbine Housings.

          3. David

which would make the power goal easier and be more cost effective Frankenstein 35r62 or HX40 Austin. You make the call and i will ship the parts and payment. Thank you,

Can You Email me Some Pictures of Parts we are Looking at for the Build, so i have an Idea of the best options? Our email is turbolabamerica@gmail.com. Both are Great turbos. I prefer the holset though because it has a larger Inducer of the turbine wheel which seems to help with spool up.

The TEO5 turbos are wierd they have a unibearing and they are an unreliable design. The last one that I had, I did a cartridge replacement. I recommend doing the cartridge replacement + upgrade. The last one i made to a tdo6h 20g with a billet wheel. For you I can Build a new Cartridge and Upgrade the compressor wheel to a 16g for $400.

I was looking into HRC Super 20Gs (TD05H 10cm2 turbine mated to TD06H 20G compressor) until they stopped production on that turbo. I was impressed with the spool of the turbo (power coming in around 3200rpm on a 2.3L volvo 5cyl) and the price point. Can you provide something with a T3 flange with similar spool and flow characteristics?

I’m looking to make around 370-400WHP. I’d be using an external wastegate so there would be no need for an internal gate and I’d ideally like the turbine exit to be a V-band style, although that is not a necessity.

We also have 9 blade tdo4HL turbines that fit these turbos. I can remove the bolt also. We also have upgraded rebuild kits for these turbos. Is this turbo a TDO4 or TDO4HL. I have never seen one that had the tdo4 shaft in the volvo.

If you want me to do the rebuild and Upgrade to a 19t, you are looking at $345 which includes me buy the compressor housing, if i have to.

If you measure the shaft bore where the Compressor wheel sits, it will measure 6.30mm or 7.93mm. If your shaft is 6.30mm, then your turbo takes this rebuild kit: this one. If your turbo has a 7.93mm shaft bore then it takes this rebuild kit

      The Definition of a T3/T4 turbo is that it has a T3 turbine 56mm x 65mm with a T4 series compressor wheel, most commonly a 60-1 59mm x 76mm 7 blade.

Hi there! I have a very old (6+ years/original owner) original GT3582r in my DSM (https://youtu.be/l87zEYGPWCk) and it CONSUMES a quart of oil over a 3K interval-especially when cold (It did it since 2011 back when it was in my EVO 8). It’s only coming from the intake side so it goes through my whole intercooler, pipes, engine, etc. Other than that, it performs VERY well and there are no bearing issues. The turbine wheel has some FOD damage, but it’s been like that for a bit. Can you fix those two issues under the Garrett CHRA warranty program? Also, are the CHRAs you have for sale on Amazon (GT3582r) covered under the OEM warranty? Let me know and I’ll buy it right away and send you this one. Thanks!

I can machine the ford 5 bolt turbine housing for a holset hx35 or hx40. The hx40 is kind of big though. I can also machine the turbine housing to fit a Ball bearing GT30r or GT35r. I have all the parts to build the turbos.

For upgrading the factory turbo, you are kind of limited. I could probably upgrade the shaft, and maybe the compressor wheel. But the problem is the thrust bearing would still be a weaker 270 degree thrust bearing unless i do some changing to allow me to get rid of the carbon seal parts, which may mean that i might not be able to use the compressor housing. I havent went that far with one before i have only rebuild them.

Another thing that we can do is upgrade a garrett turbo around the turbine housing also. For example 60-1 or gt35 journal bearing.

Hello, I have a JDM Toyota CT26 Ceramic turbo. I just recently purchased a T04E 46 Trim compressor wheel. I was wondering how much it would cost to have you machine the compressor housing for the new compressor wheel to fit? Also, how long does the process take? Thanks

The CT turbos with the ceramic turbine are really difficult to work with. It isnt something that i want to do. The problem is if you need to remove the turbine housing, if you ever so slightly touch the turbine trying to removed the turbine housing, then the shaft breaks at the ceramic connection to the shaft. On top of that people were telling me that if you boost over 14 psi, then the shaft will break off.

it wouldnt be so bad if i could get a replacement turbine wheel for that, but i have not even been able to do that. Those turbos are really difficult to find parts for to make matters even worse.

I know very little about the CT series, I have worked on a few, all of the turbos with the ceramic turbine wheels that i messed with i have not been able to Repair. I could have custom turbine wheels made to replace or upgrade, but i would have to see that it is worth it.

What car is the turbo for?

I would probably go with an a factory turbine housing machined to tdo6 turbine 55mm x 65mm and a 56 x 76 map ef3 compressor wheel. this turbo is good for around 450hp. We have people that spool the 25g turbos really well, and they make really good power 580 hp plus, but the problem is the evo x turbine housing is only machineable to tdo6h, if it is welded, and then it usually cracks, its just a pain to deal with. Then there are aftermarket housings that are 300$, but the problem with those is that they are cast iron and the divider will warp easy and cause a lot of problems.

The oem evox turbine housing is the best one to go with, though both crack, the nickel oem housing does a much better job of withstanding heat.

It depends what size turbine housing it is, weather or not it is worth machining to a stage 3 turbine wheel. Try and go with a .63 turbine housing at minimum, depending on the size of your engine (1.8 to 2.0 liter 4 cyl)

Hey Austin- Not sure if I spoke to you or your partner on the phone but they were very helpful on my plans for a 2.7T Audi twin K03 rebuild/upgrade. The issue is having a cost-effective upgrade that will give me better flow vs. the stock K03s without having to change MAF, piping diameter or intercoolers. I’m after around 100-125 h.p. improvement vs. stock (250 crank h.p.) and sounds like the larger K04 cast compressor wheel and machining of the cold side housing is the way to go. Do you modify the hot side at all or just keep the same hot side turbine? I’ve heard it’s very small on the K03s, great for quick spool and I really want to keep the instant response of the stock turbos but beyond a Stg 1 flash tune the stock turbos are a bottleneck. I reckon after 150k miles my stock turbos will need some attention so planning on this winter. So can you give me a breakdown of what the actual mods will be and is it $550 per turbo as on your website? Thanks guys!

We can rebuild them for 500$ for the pair. Or if you want to do the upgrade, we can upgrade the turbine wheels from 38mm to 44.4mm x 50mm 9 blade turbines, and from 35mm compressor wheels to 42 x 56mm compressor wheels. The cost is 550$ per turbo to upgrade and Rebuild, This includes machining the compressor and turbine housings, and compressor plates and the rebuild. This kind of upgrades takes about 40hrs, but i should be able to cut a lot of the time down with machine with my cnc lathe.

I have modified a lot of ko3 and ko4 turbos, but I have not modified one of those ko4 turbos before. The largest compressor wheels available is a 50 x 62 x 65mm wheel (5+5 blade), there is also a 7 blade that is 52mm. We have a turbine wheel that is a 9 blade 44.4 x 50mm.

I dont know much about your turbo, there are 3 different ko4 turbines, so i dont know if i have to machine your turbine housing for a larger shaft or not. There is a 42mm x 50 ko4 turbine also. A cost estimate and rebuild for the compressor wheel upgrade is 350$, and for the compressor turbine upgrade and rebuild is 650$

We offer the Powermax Billet wheel(63.5mm x 88 x 94 11 blade) upgrade for $450, which includes, the billet wheel machining, and the rebuild. If you want to do the 2003 10 blade turbine upgrade the cost is 200$ more which includes the turbine wheel and machining the turbine housing.

How much HP will the 10 blade support. I’m going for 450 HP with air upgrades and without engine rebuild. Do you do this exchange with core charge or rebuild mine ? What is turnaround time if you rebuild mine. Have you had any failures on your rebuilds ?

Its the HE351VE that were variable vain, It was on the 6.7 liter engines. the 5.9 2003 to 2006 were not VGT, they were either he351 he351cw or HE341. We do that upgrade for 650$ to 67mm compressor and 67mm turbine wheel. I have a video on youtube Here.

Hi, I have a 92 dodge stealth rt twin turbo with stock 9b turbo and am looking to upgrade them to 19ts. I see it is around $800 to do everything for both turbos, what all does that entail. My second question is how are you able to do it so much cheaper than other places. I really like the price but it’s about half of some other locations. Thanks and I look forward to your response.

I do the upgrade and build for 20ts for 1200$, which includes the rebuild, blasting, painting, pressure washining, cnc machining, and balancing. I dont outsource any of the work, I have the tools to do all the work here. But often I dont always take on these jobs, because they are very time consuming. It just depends on the amount of work that I have in currently. 2/3 of my business is product sales, 1/3 is turbo builds. Lately i have had to turn down a lot of turbo build work, because I cant hire anyone to do this kind of work in my area for 2 reasons, no one around me that I know of can do this kind of work, and 2nd i dont believe that I have enough profit margin to make money on paying someone else to do the build.

We have done a small upgrade like that a 16t, 15g, 15t, they are all around the same size. The 16t is the biggest one that can go in these turbos, without having to resleeve the inlets with pipes. The cost to do the compressor wheel upgrade with rebuild, balancing, billet wheels, machining, and keeping the original turbine wheels is 700$

I have a Sonata with TDO4HL 19T – it’s twin scroll with manifold cast together with the turbine housing. I was curious if machining the hot side would be possible to fit TDO5 152G6 CHRA and compressor housing to use factory EvoX turbo as upgrade to make 400whp. Or to use upgrades from there to make more.

    Is this remotely possible?

In addition to your 335i td03 upgrade, would you be able to do a Td03 7g to td04? There are quite a few of us driving Legnum VR4s looking to upgrade, but the thought of needing custom manifolds is throwing people off. The stock shaft has been known to sheer when people have just upgraded the wheels, so is it possible to fit a different bearing to accomodate a larger shaft? Or does the centre actually need machining to accept a larger shaft? Your prices look very reasonable.

    Thanks for reading.

Those turbos are rebuildable. The cost to rebuild a turbo like that is 250 to 550 depending on what it needs. If its laggy now its because of the poor condition that it is in. It ball bearing, they spool fast as they are.

I have a T04e-46 with a T04b housing with a Stage III turbine wheel. The bearings have given up and the compressor wheel has just grazed the housing. I’d like to have the turbo rebuilt and upgrade the compressor wheel. What can you fit into the T04b housing?

This is on a Ford 2.3L SOHC engine. The head has been ported with larger valves and a larger cam. However, flow is still poor compared to modern 4v DOHC heads. I run 20-22psi daily on pump gas, more planned for e85. Pump gas with the T04e-46 resulted in 295rwhp. The engine is done making power by 6500rpm, so I need something that will spool relatively quickly, full boost was about 3800 with the T04e-46/Stg III with a .63 turbine housing. I am running a 60-1/F1-65 in a .82 T3 turbine housing and full boost isn’t until 4600rpm. Needless to say it seems a lot slower.

What are your suggestions and what are the costs associated? The only absolute requirement is that I keep with a 5-bolt Ford T3 turbine housing with internal wastegate passage

I am pretty sure I have reached the limits of the turbo because I am starting to have boost taper off in the upper RPMs. I am running 30 psi and it drops to 27-28 psi by redline. No boost leaks and the car made great power on the dyno. I am looking to upgrade to an HX40. Would it be cheaper to convert my holset into an HX40 and machine the turbine housing or sell it and buy an already built unit without the turbine housing and get my housing machined? Spool is very important to me so I would want the fastest spooling compressor and turbine option. Also, do you repair turbine housing threads? Thanks for your time and I hope to send some business your way in the near future.

The blade options are 6+6, 7+7, or 11 blades on the compressor and 12 or 9 blades on the turbine.

For the 2.5 liter STI motor we usually go with the tdo6sl2 20g with the 7 blade compressor wheel. The 9 blade and 11 blade tdo6sl2 (54mm x 61mm) turbines both work well for fast spool and 425-450 hp.

If you have the 2.0 engine I would lean toward the tdo5h 9 blade (49mm x 56mm)for better spool on the smaller engine.

When a turbo is whining that means the bearings are worn out or it’s not getting oil. Subaru have a common issue with the screens in the head getting clogged and restricting oil to the turbocharger causing the turbo to wear out.

I would recommend the 16g for 350-375 hp and the 20g for 400-425 hp and the tdo6sl2 20g for 425-450 hp. Hope all is well I currently have a 2012 Countryman S. I am looking for a turbo upgrade but not quite sold on the the price or power of the JCW turbo. Do you offer options for rebuild of the countryman S turbo? I believe i saw a video of a 50mm or similar to the 47mm jcw? If you have options I am very interested.

Through random web searching, I see that you can machine different exhaust housings for HX40 turbochargers.

For reference, I have a 97 eclipse with a 2.4L (auto) and a billet wheel HX40 t4 t/s 17cm housing. I find the 17cm a little too big for the street and I am hoping a 0.82 divided housing would help quicken the spool. I am hoping to stay with the current manifold I have, so a t4 housing would be required.

I am wondering if you could machine or obtain a 0.82 (ish) T4 twin scroll turbine housing with a 3″ outlet for me?
I know its been done , but not very common. Wondering if you could be the guy to help.

    Thanks

There is a .81 t4 for a ptrim turbine but the tip height is taller on the ptrim so I have to move in the bearing housing to compensate which moves the turbine wheel out of the flow stream a little bit. It can be done though we usually Machine those housing for the 67 x 76 turbine because the tip height is taller on that turbine and it can be machined without having to move the bearing housing in farther than I want.

From your response, I am thinking perhaps I should sell this turbo and move to PTE which is available with t4 .82 t/s housings.

        or.

Move to t3 open housing and manifold.

Do you have any alternative suggestions?

    Hi Austin
    Hoping you could help.
I have an EVO 2 with built 6 block running GT35R 22psi 510whp. The oil is filtered off the head to a restrictor on the top oil feed port. Running fine for years. Now it won’t boost anymore past 12-15psi. I checked for boost leaks, wastegate, exhaust and boost controller. No problems, no metal or crap in the filter or line. As it gets hotter boost falls further and becomes laggier. Once it went flat and stuttered (sounded like surge). Then at idle the metallic clinking noise sometimes . Thought it must be low oil pressure as shaft is trying to spin.
So I pulled the turbo and expected to find stuffed bearings, wear, or touched housings and shaft play. Found nothing. shaft and end play within limits. Everything looks fine.
Could it be oil starvation? Should I just rebuild with your GT35R kit just in case? Was thinking of upgrading to your billet comp wheel at the same time.

How’s it going I have a prescion 6466 ball bearing unit that has around 1000 mikes on it since new. Unforuntly a vacuum line sucked in and destroyed the compressor wheel and possibly bent the shaft slightly. Thankfully it did not contact the housings. Is this something that can be repaired? I’d hate to think it’s not fixable for the amount I paid for the unit.

    Hello Austin!
Lots of great content, both video, and in your comment lines.
    I have a 2008 Audi A4 s-line 2.0t fsi I’m doing a build on. Factory turbo is, I assume, a K03, and is a journal bearing type turbo correct?
Reading info on upgrades are sometimes vague to this engine. Some say to stay away from a K04, others say it’s a decent upgrade.
I watched your pros and cons video of the ball bearing vs journal style. Still not sure where to go. When it comes to my expectations of my build, I’m kind of in the middle. I’m a reliability/ durability type person, but also want to have good power in my car when complete.
The K03 build you offer, is that something I should consider, or can I to keep the components I already have? What kind of power roughly can I see? Should I go up to a K04, or even a low-mid range Borg Warner or Garret?
Rough goal is 350-400 engine hp. (IE sport block assy, IE sport head assy, 550 injectors, 3″ down pipe, FPR @70 psi, HP fuel pump upgrade, and min stage 2, prob custom software for the build.
I just don’t want to go too big, do I have problems. I figure this turbo thing out, it’ll be down to the tune.
Thank you! Apologies of all this info.

Thanks for your article. I would also love to say that the very first thing you will need to do is determine if you really need credit restoration. To do that you will have to get your hands on a replica of your credit report. That should really not be difficult, considering that the government makes it necessary that you are allowed to obtain one absolutely free copy of your actual credit report every year. You just have to check with the right people. You can either read the website for the Federal Trade Commission or even contact one of the main credit agencies straight.

    Hey Austin
I have a 2006 Dodge 3500 with a 5.9 Cummins. I have been reading a ton on turbo upgrades. Most companies won’t offer the full specs on there turbos. They typically leave out the turbine specs. I am interested in doing the 67 mm turbine with the new machine housing but am not sure what to do on the compressor side I’m thinking of the 63mm compressor. That seems to be a popular size for many for a drop in with no tuning needed. I pull a 12k ln. Fifth Wheel and my egts are high when pulling hills. It seems to choke about 2800 rpm and egts are at 1400 deg.+ I am looking for a drop in with similar spool time as the factory turbo and I see you offer a turbo with a 63mm compressor and the 67mm turbin. What would be the cost one of these with the o-ringed compressor housing? Is there one you can send me and I can send back mine as a core? I am looking for minimal down time since this is my daily driver.

I have a similar question to Darby’s…I was wondering more along the lines of do I need to increase the size of the compressor wheel? Can I use the 60mm wheel, or is that a foolish choice if I’m planning to upgrade the turbine and turbine housing? It appears as though all the other compressor wheels require machining of the compressor housing and I’m not sure if I need a larger compressor wheel. Also, how much boost pressure should I expect? I’m not looking into head studs at the moment and don’t really plan on it as my 07 5.9 3500 is a daily driver and there are no plans to make it a sled/track truck. I have upgraded my CP3 (15% over stock), my injectors are 24% over stock, upgraded air intake, and intake horn. I also have a smarty tuner and run it very low. Currently, when unloaded and not towing, I’m seeing EGT’s of up to 1350-1400. I imagine that just doing the turbine housing upgrade would suffice to bring my EGTs down, reduce drive pressure and increase air flow. Anyway, I appreciate all the info you have floating around on your website…very educational! Thanks

Hi Austin, firstly thanks for the content you upload on YouTube.

Hoping to find out if you are able to supply an 18G sized wheel and machined compressor housing for a VF54 (Gen V legacy)?

Also any updates on whether you can upgrade the MGT2259S 2015+ WRX turbo?

    Dear Austin,
thanks for the great content both here and on your Y.T. chanel.
Althought I didnt wach all of the videos I dont recal of you speaking of turbos for wankel engines.
Something I am interested in is turboing my rx8 with low (7-12max psi) boost and fast spool starting from 3-3-5k rpm but without the sacrifice of the exhaust flow at the top end at 9k rpm.

I see most recomend something in range of PT6266 but considering the cost its a preattty heafty investment. so I am asking if you have other recomendation (including one that you mod to produce it) how should I go abaut getting on in simmilar specs. If i did my homework correcly its 62mm ind and 82mm exd for comp wheel and 74mm ind and 66mm exd turbine wheel with usualy 0.82trim exhaust housing.
What is in your opinion better than the mentioned in exhaust flow and and low bost high volume intake flow ?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Milos B.

    Hi Austin,
I would like to know whether you could build me a TD04HL 22T for Subaru from scratch? I live in Australia and it would be better if you could source a core locally rather than me having to send the core to you. I have done this about 7 yrs ago and sent you guys the TD04L turbo to upgrade, but the cost of shipping the turbo to America cost a fair bit of $$. Could you give me a quote if you are able to do this for me?

    Regards Phil
